What is the cost of a new commercial boiler?
Whether you’ve just moved into a new commercial building or large home, or you’re planning to buy or lease a new business unit, before too long, the question of upgrading the boiler will inevitably be raised. When replacing a commercial boiler, the exact cost can be challenging to pin down as there are so many factors to consider, including boiler output, flue route, and installation access.
Your commercial boiler is probably the most critical item to ensure your clients and employees’ comfort and safety. There can also be a substantial financial burden in downtime when hot water or heating is unavailable. What constitutes a commercial boiler?
A commercial boiler works in much the same way as a domestic boiler. The main difference is the output is higher than 70 kilowatts, and the boiler has been classified as commercial by the manufacturer. A commercial boilers exact output will depend on your premises’ size and efficiency and your heating/hot water requirements. Commercial boilers are usually supplied by gas pipework with a diameter of over 35 mm. This means only a commercial Gas Safe registered engineer can replace a commercial boiler.
Commercial boilers can be found in many types of business premises, including large domestic homes, schools, hotels, warehouses, factories, and churches. Most businesses depend on their heating and hot water to be in constant use, 24 hours a day – think of a hotel, for example. For this reason, there can be big problems should something go wrong. For health and safety reasons, all businesses must provide a warm and hygienic environment for their employees. The average lifespan of a commercial boiler is 10-15 years. Proactive maintenance helps extend lifespan, minimise business disruption, and reduce monthly energy bills. The risk of safety issues is also significantly reduced.
So how much does a commercial boiler cost fully installed?
A standard 2-3000 sq. ft commercial unit would usually have a commercial boiler installed with an output of 60-80 KW. For this size boiler, you should expect to pay £8-10k (ex VAT) fully installed. Expect a similar cost for a large domestic property with 30-40 radiators. The cost can escalate for more significant commercial buildings as several boilers are often required to meet demand. One of the main factors that can increase expenses is the style of the flue pipe. If your existing boiler has a vertical flue installed in a chimney, this will often need replacing to comply with current specifications. This can often double the cost of a new commercial boiler installation.
